ACTUARIAL SCIENCE (AS) at Georgia State University
A World Leader of Actuarial Education & Research...
Established in 1958, the Actuarial Science Program at Georgia State University is one of the leading programs of its kind in world. The program houses faculty with international reputations who conduct research and educate talented students from all over the world who participate in our unique and comprehensive collection of academic programs in actuarial science and related specializations. For almost 50 years, GSU has developed one of the largest networks alumni many of many of whom have gone on to become Fellows or Associates of the Society of Actuaries and/or the Casualty Actuarial Society as well as leaders in the actuarial profession and related businesses. The program is proud to have alumni that are past presidents of both U.S. actuarial societies as well as former and current presidents and CEO’s of companies with global reach.
As an actuarial science program housed in a business school we strive to produce well-rounded business professionals with substantial actuarial and mathematical skills. The decision to place actuarial science in the business school was made by the program's founding fathers—notably Drs. Kenneth Black Jr. and Eli A. Zubay—who rightly perceived the actuarial profession as belonging more to the business sphere than to more traditional pure mathematics - a perception not widely accepted by the actuarial educators of that era. The early signal that Georgia State University was committed to producing well-rounded business professionals with substantial actuarial and mathematical skills continues to be a hallmark of our program.
