GRADUATE CERTIFICATE in PERSONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING (PFP)

For MBA/MS business degree holders...
A graduate certificate in Personal Financial Planning provides a career change or development opportunity for MBA and MS business degree holders. This option is attractive to business students because it complements the typical MBA/MS focus on larger business entities, with its emphasis on individual and small business needs. Likewise, prospective employers such as banks, brokerages, and other financial services firms will find the dual focus attractive as they seek employees capable of dealing effectively with both the demands of modern corporate life and those of the individuals and small businesses served by these firms.

For attorneys...
Because of the close relationship between the financial planning and legal professions, this certificate also offers attorneys the opportunity to make a career change or enhancement, while using much of the knowledge and skills obtained though their legal training.

For CPAs...
The graduate certificate provides CPAs with the opportunity to expand the scope of services offered to their clients.

Completion of the PFP Graduate Certificate Program will satisfy the education requirement for the Certified Financial Planner designation.

REQUIREMENTS:

The graduate certificate in Personal Financial Planning will require completion of ACC 4510 - Introduction to Federal Income Taxation, or equivalent, as a foundation course and the following graduate courses:

PFP 8400 - Personal Financial Planning
PFP 8420 - Retirement Planning
PFP 8460 - Estate Planning
PFP 8520 - Advanced Studies in Personal Financial Planning
FI 8000 - Valuation of Financial Assets
RMI 8200 - Life Insurance

Certificate students take the same PFP classes as the masters degree students, so formal admission is required. The Certificate itself is non-degree, and is awarded by the Department of Risk Management and Insurance, as opposed to the College.
