PERSONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING (PFP)
Interdisciplinary in scope, the study of personal financial planning draws on course work in various disciplines throughout the college including finance, insurance, taxation, law and real estate, among others. Students learn to formulate and implement a comprehensive plan for the accumulation, conservation and transfer of a client's personal wealth. Emphasis is placed on a coordinated, conceptual program, based on an individual's specific goals and objectives. With the availability of new financial products and services, the field of personal financial planning is growing increasingly complex. To prepare students to solve tomorrow's problems, all personal financial planning courses emphasize independent student thinking.
The Department of Risk Management and Insurance offers three graduate-level personal financial planning programs, including the Master of Science (MS), MBA with a major in personal financial planning, and a Graduate Certificate Program for individuals who already have an MBA, MS in a business-related field, JD, or CPA designation. These programs provide students with several ways to explore the rapidly growing field of personal financial planning.
An undergraduate course in personal financial planning, PFP 4000, is also offered. This course may be used to help satisfy the Junior/Senior RCB Electives requirement for the BBA degree.
