BRUCE A. PALMER, PhD
Professor Emeritus of Risk Management and Insurance

Bruce A. Palmer retired as professor and chairman of Georgia State University's Department of Risk Management and Insurance in August of 2000, after nearly 30 years of service. In 2002, he was given the title of Professor Emeritus by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.
Dr. Palmer is a graduate of Drake University where he majored in actuarial science. He received his master's and doctorate degrees from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania where he was a Huebner Fellow. He is a past president of the American Risk and Insurance Association, the Southern Risk and Insurance Association, and the Atlanta Chapter of the Society of Financial Services Professionals, and he also served previously as a board member of the Atlanta Association of Health Underwriters. He is also a member of the Western Risk and Insurance Association, the Risk Management and Insurance Society (RIMS), and the International Insurance Society. He also served previously as an Associate Editor of The Journal of Risk and Insurance-a leading scholarly publication in the field of risk and insurance.
Dr. Palmer's research interests are considerable and varied with a primary focus on retirement planning, life insurance, and employee benefits. His publications include nine monographs, chapters in several insurance and employee benefits texts, and numerous articles published in The Journal of Risk and Insurance, Benefits Quarterly, The Journal of the American Society of CLU and ChFC, and Financial Planning. Palmer continues to be Project Director and Principal Investigator of Georgia State's RETIRE Project-an ongoing project that focuses on retirement income needs.
He has conducted a number of seminars sponsored by various organizations including the Society of Actuaries, Life Office Management Association (LOMA), NationsBank, Allstate Life Insurance Company, IBM Corporation, and the Internal Revenue Service. He is a frequent consultant and speaker on retirement issues, employee benefits and life insurance.
