David P. Richardson, Ph.D., is the New York Life Assistant Professor of Risk Management and Insurance in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. His research areas are retirement savings and estate planning, with a focus on the interaction between life insurance, public pensions, and private retirement savings programs. He lectures on Life and Health Insurance, Employee Benefit Programs, and Pensions.
Previously, Dr. Richardson was a financial economist in the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Tax Policy, where he specialized in Social Security and retirement policy issues. He provided expert assistance to President Bush's Commission to Strengthen Social Security and worked extensively on the development of the Clinton Administration's Universal Savings Account proposal. He provided technical expertise and advice to various foreign governments, including Argentina, China, Japan, and Sweden.
Prior to working at the U.S. Treasury, Dr. Richardson was a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Economics at Davidson College. While a teaching fellow at Boston College, he was awarded the Donald J. White Teaching Excellence Award. He earned a Ph.D. and a M.A. in Economics from Boston College, and a B.B.A (majoring in Economics) from the University of Georgia.
