HOW TO APPLY

Deadline for All Applications

All applications for RMI Department scholarships are due to the scholarship committee by February 1st (the Priority Deadline). The majority of the scholarship awards are made in the spring for the upcoming academic year. Therefore, applicants should submit their applications by the Priority Deadline.

Applications not submitted by the Priority Deadline may still be considered by the scholarship committee. Any remaining funds, if any, not distributed in connection with the Priority Deadline may be awarded to these applicants. However, preference in awarding funds is given to those students submitting by the Priority Deadline.

General Application

Students seeking a scholarship who have not previously received an RMI Department scholarship should print out the General Application and return the required information and materials to the address that appears on the form. You only need to submit one application to be considered for all applicable RMI Department scholarships.

Renewal Application

Current students who previously received an RMI Department scholarship award and wish to continue that award in the upcoming year must submit a Renewal Application. Any renewals to previous recipients are made in the spring for the upcoming academic year, and are contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and timely progress towards your degree.

GRA Application

Graduate students who also wish to be considered for a Graduate Research Assistant position in the RMI Department must complete the GRA Application in addition to the General Application form. GRA positions require the student to work a minimum of 8 hours each week performing research-related tasks for a professor. The GRA receives a stipend and a full or partial tuition waiver.

GRA Renewal Application

Current graduate students who previously received a GRA from the RMI Department and wish to continue that position in the upcoming year must submit a GRA Renewal Application.

Timing of Awards and Disbursements

The scholarship committee meets each spring to award scholarships for the upcoming academic year. Of the total scholarship amount awarded to a student, one half will be paid in fall semester of the upcoming academic year, and the second half will be paid in spring semester of the upcoming academic year.

Outside Scholarships / Special Programs

RMI Department students are also eligible to apply for certain special programs and scholarships offered by institutions such as New York Life, the Southeastern Actuaries Conference and others. Separate applications, with separate deadlines, are required for some of these special programs. Click here for further information and for the application forms.
